Auburn Area Community Theatre closes 20th season with 'Steel Magnolias'
April 30 2025
AUBURN, Ala.- Auburn Area Community Theatre (AACT) will close its 20th anniversary season with Robert Harling’s "Steel Magnolias," running May 9-18 at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. Selected by community survey, the beloved play follows the lives of six women who gather weekly at Truvy’s hair salon to share their hopes, dreams and hardships.
Directed by Andrea Holliday, the production features a blend of AACT veterans and newcomers.
“The play is even better than the 1989 movie many of us know and love," Holliday said. "It’s a gem with a lot of humor, focusing solely on the women's stories.”
Tricia Oliver, portraying M’Lynn, called the play “a journey” about resilience and friendship. Newcomers Heidi Hulon (Clairee) and Lizzy Greer (Annelle) praised the production’s spirit of community and the strength of its characters.
Performances are scheduled for May 9, 10 and 15–17 at 7 p.m., with matinees on May 11 and 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for children, students and seniors. The show offers a meaningful option for Mother’s Day celebrations.
